Supported File Types & Size Limits

3 min read

Filifly is designed to support a wide range of file types and formats, allowing users to share virtually any digital content. However, to ensure a smooth experience, there are specific guidelines on file types and size limits that users should keep in mind.

1. Supported File Types #

Filifly supports a variety of file types, including but not limited to:

  • Documents: PDF, DOC, DOCX, TXT, XLS, XLSX, PPT, PPTX
  • Images: JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP, TIFF
  • Audio: MP3, WAV, FLAC, AAC, OGG
  • Video: MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV, FLV, WebM
  • Archives: ZIP, RAR, TAR, GZ
  • Other Types: HTML, CSS, XML, JSON, and more

This flexibility allows users to share files from a wide range of professional, academic, and personal use cases, including presentations, reports, media files, and compressed archives.

2. File Size Limitations #

While Filifly supports a broad range of file types, there are size limits depending on the user’s access level:

  • Free Users: For users without any subscription, the maximum file size per upload is 20 MB.
  • Paid Users (Coming soon): Users with a premium plan may be able to upload larger files. Exact size limits for paid plans depend on the subscription type. We are planning to offer file size limits of up to 2 GB or more for premium users.

It’s important to note that these size limits are in place to ensure smooth file transfers and efficient server storage. If your file exceeds the limit, consider compressing the file into a ZIP archive or reducing the file size (e.g., by compressing images or videos) before uploading.

3. File Expiry and Storage #

Files uploaded to Filifly automatically expire after 24 hours. After this period, the file is no longer accessible using the unique code. This built-in expiration feature ensures that shared files are only available for a limited time, which enhances privacy and data security.

There are no ongoing storage requirements for users—once the file expires, it is automatically removed from the system, meaning that Filifly does not store any data beyond the specified time.

4. Special Requirements #

  • File Compression: If your file exceeds the maximum allowed size (e.g., 20 MB for free users), you can compress it into a ZIP or RAR archive. This can help you bypass the file size restriction, as well as bundle multiple files into one package for easier sharing.
  • Non-Supported Formats: Filifly may not support certain specialized or proprietary formats, such as specific software project files or encrypted file formats. If in doubt, you can check the file type compatibility by uploading the file or referring to the platform’s help documentation.

5. File Integrity and Security #

Filifly uses secure methods for file uploads and sharing. Once a file is uploaded, it is encrypted and assigned a unique code. As long as the recipient has the code within the 24-hour validity window, they can securely access and download the file. However, users should always be cautious when sharing sensitive or private information, especially if sharing outside trusted channels.

Summary #

  • Supported File Types: Documents (PDF, DOCX), Images (JPG, PNG), Audio (MP3, WAV), Video (MP4, MOV), and more. Almost all file types.
  • File Size Limit: 20 MB for free users, larger limits available for paid plans.
  • File Expiry: Files automatically expire after 24 hours.
  • Special Requirements: Use ZIP or RAR formats to compress large files. Ensure you’re uploading compatible file formats.

Filifly’s straightforward approach to file sharing ensures that users can send almost any type of file quickly and securely, while keeping size and storage limitations clear for a better experience.
